Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)

Transitioning to renewable energy can often be financially or operationally challenging for many organisations. We support organisations with their sustainability goals, helping them to invest in renewable energy projects and supporting the necessary transition out of fossil fuels.

Energy Attribute Certificates

Purchasing Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs) can be a useful solution for organisations during their transitions. Effectively, EACs offset an organisation’s Scope 2 emissions (the indirect emissions associated with the purchase of electricity, steam, heat, or cooling).

How EACs work

One EAC is equivalent to one MWh of electricity produced and delivered to the respective National Grid from a renewable source, e.g., wind or solar generation. There are a range of EACs available in the industry, including:

  • RECs: Renewable Energy Certificates
  • I-RECs: International Renewable Energy Certificates
  • GoOs: Guarantees of Origin
  • REGOs: Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin

How THG Eco can help

EACs can be bought voluntarily and retired on behalf of the end-user who can then compensate for their energy consumption and enhance the production of clean energy. EACs must be purchased both from the same location and within the same calendar year as when the energy was consumed.
